Gairlochy Lighthouse - A mostly flat and scenic ride, this route follows the Caledonian Canal from Nevis Cycles in Fort William to Gairlochy Lighthouse. Using canal towpaths and quiet roads, it passes Neptune’s Staircase and offers steady views of Highland scenery and open water, finishing at the lighthouse on the shores of Loch Lochy.
Loch Arkaig Loop - This scenic bike route heads north along the Caledonian Canal and mixed paths before leaving the canal towpath to join quiet Highland roads towards Achnacarry. Along the way you can stop at the Clan Cameron Museum for a look into local history before continuing on the country road out to Loch Arkaig, where peaceful lochside views reward your effort. The ride combines easy canal-side cycling with quiet rural lanes and classic Highland scenery.
Gairlochy to Spean Bridge Loop - Starting at Nevis Cycles in Fort William, head out along the Caledonian Canal/Great Glen Way towpath to Gairlochy and its small lighthouse on Loch Lochy. From Gairlochy the loop climbs gently on quiet roads toward the Commando Memorial and then down into Spean Bridge, a good spot for a break before turning south. The return leg uses quieter minor roads and back lanes through the countryside and forests back toward Fort William, bringing you back to your start point. The route combines canal-side cycling, peaceful roads and forestry trails.
Steall Falls - This route heads east before climbing steadily toward Braveheart Car Park, leaving town behind. From here it follows scenic forestry tracks through woodland and open glen, offering a quiet and traffic-free stretch. The route rejoins the road at Achriabhach for the final approach into Glen Nevis, reaching Steall Falls car park, with dramatic mountain scenery throughout. The walk from the car park to the falls is around 30 minutes - 1 hour one way.
Nevis Cycles to Nevis Range - Starting from Nevis Cycles, this route heads north out of town on quiet paths and forest tracks, passing behind the Alvance industrial area before joining the well-known Puggy Line Trail. The trail winds smoothly through Leanachan Forest with flowing singletrack, gentle berms and rollers, making for an enjoyable and gradual climb. It then leads directly towards the trails and facilities at Nevis Range Mountain Resort.
